Mr. Usen Effiong (Chairman)

Mr. Usen EFFIONG is currently the Executive Director, Corporate Services at the Bank of Industry (BOI). He oversees Management Services and the BOI Subsidiaries. Mr. Effiong joined the BOI from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He has over Thirty – Two (32) years working experience with the Apex Bank out of which 20 years were spent in various Human Resources functions such as Performance Management, Workforce Planning, Talent Management, Change Management, Continuous Improvement and HR Transformation.

A highly analytical and cross-functional Executive with proficient skills and competence in connecting strategic objectives to operational tactics while ensuring implementation and driving change initiatives. He is very passionate about value creation in the business and also focused on enabling dynamic and customer-focused workforce and environment.

Mr. Effiong is an alumnus of University of Ibadan and University of Calabar were he obtained M.Sc Agric. Economics and B.Sc (Hons) Agric. Economics qualifications respectively. He is a Full Member of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM). He is also a Certified Member of Certified Talent Acquisition Professional (CTAP) and Strategic Workforce Planner, Human Capital Institute.

Mr Azuka E. Okofu
Managing Director

Mr. Azuka E. Okofu ( Managing Director)

Mr. Okofu is a seasoned banker with local and international experience spanning over twenty years. He has a B.Sc degree in Physics with honors from the University of Ibadan and an MBA (Management) from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife.  He also received a Master degree in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University, Waltham/Boston Massachusetts-USA.

He is a Hassenfeld Fellow and a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP).

His experience covers Core Banking Operations; Customer Service, Retail & Commercial Banking, Credit Analysis, Strategy & Execution, Marketing & Business Development, Operational Risk Management, Organizational Development and Business Management.

He is also an Assistant General Manager and Division Head of Bottom of The Pyramid at Bank of Industry.

Mr. Omar Shekarau (Director)

Mr. Shekarau Omar is a seasoned Banker and presently the Executive Director Small and Medium Enterprises  in the Bank of Industry.

Shekarau D. Omar (HRPL) graduated with 2nd Class Upper (B.Ed) Honors degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1985. He also obtained two Masters degrees in Educational Administration (M.Ed, 1991) and International Law and Diplomacy (MILD, 1992) from University of Lagos.

He is a Licensed Human Resource Professional; a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM); a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Administration of Nigeria.

Had previously served the Military, University community, commercial Banks and Telecommunications before joining BOI in 2005 as a Senior Manager/Head of Human Resources. He rose to become a General Manager in 2014.

Abdul-Ganiyu Mohammed (Director)

Abdul-Ganiyu Mohammed retired as a General Manager in the Small and Medium Enterprises Directorate of the Bank of Industry in May 2018 after having served in various capacities for 26 years in the Bank and after over three decades as a Development Banker.

His working career spans the civil service, having served briefly (one year) as an Agricultural Engineer under the Niger State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, from where he embarked on his development banking sojourn. He served for about eight (8) years at the then Nigerian Agricultural and Cooperative Bank (now Bank of Agriculture) in the Investment and Projects Departments. He subsequently moved to the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank (now Bank of Industry) and served for a period of twenty-six (26) years.

At the Bank of Industry, he served as the Special Assistant to the Managing Director/CEO for a period of 9 years, where he was exposed to the formulation of key policy issues, contributed to top management decision-making and acquired general management skills. He at various times served in the Commercial Division where he pioneered the restructuring of the Division into Treasury and Financial Institutions, International Operations and Investment Departments, as well as in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Coordinating Office where he coordinated the activities of the SME Group nationwide. He was subsequently posted to Bauchi as the North East Zonal Manager where he served for one year before his redeployment to Abuja as the first BOI Northern Regional Head.

He rose to the position of General Manager in the year 2012 with responsibility for supervising the Bank’s SME operation nationwide. When the SME Directorate was restructured into North and South owing to creation of new Regional and State Offices, Abdul-Ganiyu had responsibility for superintending the Southern Operations, the SME Funds Department, Bottom of the Pyramid Group and SME Credit Group.

He spearheaded most of the new and innovative initiatives in the SME Directorate, among which are product development, the youth development programmes such as Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund (GEF), Youth Entrepreneurship Support Programme (YES) and Youth Ignite, the Bottom of the Pyramid On-lending Scheme through Microfinance Banks, the SME Digital Offerings, the Business Development Service Providers Scheme, etc. He was a leading member of the team that designed the credit aspect of the Federal Government N-Power Scheme.

Abdul-Ganiyu was a member of various Management Committees in the Bank, presiding over the Management Contracts Committee, Micro Credit Committee, Ease of Doing Business Committee and the Staff Retirement Benefit Board of Trustees. He served on the boards of Coleman Technical Industries and Abuja Steel Company and is currently a board member of the BOI Microfinance Bank, BOI Insurance Brokers and LECON Financial Services Limited.

He attended the University of Ibadan where he graduated in 1981 with a Second Class Upper Division in Agricultural Engineering and in the year 2002 obtained an MBA (Banking and Finance) from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

He is currently the Founder and CEO of Willz-Boye (Investment & Development Advisers), a consultancy and advisory firm.

Mr. Ayo Bajomo (Director)

Mr. Ayo Bajomo is currently the Divisional Head, Treasury and Financial Institutions (Treasurer) at the Bank of Industry (BOI). He manages the Bank’s Assets and Liabilities and ensures optimum liquidity at all times. He is actively involved in raising capital from international sources through syndications, bonds and other instruments. As Treasurer, he oversees the bank’s Equity Investment portfolio and manages international and local relationships with Financial Institutions & Professional Associations, etc.

Before his present role, he was the Divisional Head and Deputy General Manager responsible for overseeing all Small and Medium Enterprises in entire 17 Southern States of Nigeria. He previously served as the Technical Assistant to the Managing Director of BOI.

He has worked in the Commercial bank space with several institutions such as United Bank of Africa (UBA) and former Standard Trust Bank (STB). in UBA, he was one of about five appointed Senior Credit Officers who were assigned signing limits in entire bank and was the Head of Corporate Lending in the Risk Management division handling all Credit request for all wholesale (Corporate).

Ayo also set up the entire framework, job descriptions, recruitment of the entire team for Consumer Lending at First City Monument Bank (FCMB).

Along the way, he also worked with Equitorial Trust Bank as Group Head Retail lending at briefly as the Head of Enterprise Risk Management.

He also worked with FSB International Bank Plc (Now Fidelity Bank Plc) as Head, Construction and Telecoms Unit and earlier as Head of Corporate Planning in the Strategy Division of the bank.

Mr Bajomo has also worked with other Non bank Financial institutions such as being pioneer Managing Director/ CEO of a Finance House – One Financial Services Ltd (owned by Investment One Financial Services –  Former GTB Asset Management Ltd). Ayo was also with a CBN licensed Mobile payment company Eartholeum Networks Limited as an Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.

In consulting he worked as a senior Management Consultant with Accenture (Formerly Andersen Consulting) largely working in Strategy, Change Management, etc for FIs and Manufacturing clients.

He is a member of the Institute of Directors (mIOD), a Certified Microfinance Banker (MCIB), Honorary Senior Member of The Chartered Institute of Bankers (HCIB), Member of Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (MCSI) UK, Chartered Member Institute of Management (MNIM), associate of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria (ACS).

Mr Ayo Bajomo is a Fellow of the National Institute of Credit Administration (FICA), Portfolio Management Institute of Nigeria (FPMIN), Fellow Pension Institute of Nigeria.

Mr. Ayo Bajomo is an alumnus of University of Lagos and Lagos State University where he obtained M.Sc  and B. Sc in Mechanical Engineering respectively. At LASU, he was the best graduating student in the Faculty of Engineering in 1991.

Justina Akpoabugo Lewa (Independent Non Executive Director)

Justina Akpoabugo Lewa is a legal luminary and a renowned professional with over 28 years experience in corporate legal practice, banking, oil & gas, arbitration, merger & acquisition etc. She was called to bar in 1987 after obtaining Bachelor of Law (LL.B) from University of Jos. She also obtained her master in Law (LL.M) from University of Lagos in 1998.

She is the immediate past company secretary & Chief legal counsel of Sterling Bank Plc where she effectively & efficiently manage the bank’s legal risk, support executive management on all aspect of banking, commerce, and  other related field. She has worked as manager legal & company secretary NAL Bank Plc, state counsel, Ministry of Justice, civil litigation department, Jos and currently she is a Non- Executive Director at J-Kafchanle Nigeria Limited.

She has undergone several local and international trainings in USA, London, Johannesburg, Ghana, Dubai, Lagos etc. Justina is a several award winner which include General Counsel of the year in 2016 & 2017  by ESQ Nigeria Legal awards & Law digest Africa award, corporate legal counsel of the year 2019 award by Trek Africa etc. She belongs to many reputable professional bodies namely; Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), International Federation of Women Lawyers, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and many more.
